exciting news that some may have heard, some not!!
for those of you in LA, or people like myself who were travelling for the now-cancelled cocteau twins reunion at coachella:

Friday, April 29, 2005
V-I-O-L-A-I-N-E invites you to join us for a very special one night only exclusive show as ROBIN GUTHRIE performs "19 CRESCENT"!
A unique, one time only event, "19 CRESCENT" will consist of new material to be written en route from France to LA! Robin's journeys on planes and trains, through cities and countrysides, across ocean and continents, provide the inspiration for a show that's not to be missed!!

Introduction/Guthrie News [30 Nov 2004|02:19pm]

My name is Mike, I live on the fringe. I also live in Grand Rapids, MI. I am currently tracking a project in Grosse Pointe, MI (on which Robin has been kind enough to agree to act as mix engineer). I am currently seeking a drummer and a female vocalist so it is no longer a project, but a 'band'/'group'.

I spend my days drinking and my early mornings walking/drinking.

I recently did an interview w/Robin @The Magic Bag in Ferndale, MI. As far as I know, it (as well as pictures of the Lumiere event) will be appearing in the Jan. issue of TapeOp (www.tapeop.com).

I am quite sure Frosted Flakes are the potato chips of the new millenium.

Bonne chance, everyone.

here is a description of Lumiere - thanks to mmmender for this!

"Lumière is a 40 minute long animated film created as a backdrop to a sublime collection of sensual and atmospheric, guitar only, instrumentals of truly hypnotic beauty performed live by Robin Guthrie…

As the founder member of the seminal Cocteau Twins, Robin Guthrie has created some of the most beautiful music of recent times and is widely regarded as a musical visionary. The distinctive sonic landscapes that have become his trademark are again on display throughout the Lumière performance and at time touches upon his, thus far, only instrumental album Imperial and his legions of admirers will find much that they recognise and love.

Yet what marks this performance out from his recorded work is the spaciousness of the music. Robin employs an astonishingly down-tempo pace throughout the performance to mesmerising effect. This is music to drift away to… music in which you can lose yourself…

The film itself has been made with the same craft and techniques which Robin has used in the sonic world for years, an interweaving and layering of images, creating distinct moods which are reflected my the music being played. The music is ‘improvised within the framework dictated by the visuals’ and used no fixed rhythm or ‘beats’ but more relies on layers of treated guitars and cyclic melodies."

welcome to the violet indiana livejournal community.

my name is allison - you might know me from the cocteautwinsforums.org forums as allimart. in the last few years, i have had a growing interest in 'dreampop' with cocteau twins emerging as my favourite band. i naturally started listening to the more recent music put out by the members of my now-defunct favourite group. i think violet indiana is fantastic - i know some fans feel that liz was more suited to the sound than siobhan, for others perhaps it's just a matter of getting used to it - but i think they are fantastic. no, they aren't cocteau twins. but they aren't supposed to be, either.

i was really surprised to find that there wasn't a community supporting VI on livejournal, so i decided that i ought to make one.

membership is open, posts are unmoderated, unless something terribly rude or off-topic gets posted. we're all friends here.

i'd just like to ask for no commmunity promotions, unless it is related to the subject at hand. i would just like to keep things on topic!

just have a good time and enjoy yourselves.
